Shoulder Tap Connections in Rock: How-To Guide

Overview

Shoulder Tap connections are one of our primary ways to help people take their next step in serving. Rock, our people database, allows us to track and manage these invitations so we can follow up well and steward relationships intentionally.

There are three ways to submit a Shoulder Tap in Rock. Choosing the correct method ensures the process is smooth and the person is properly connected.

The Three Ways to Submit a Shoulder Tap

1. Add a Connection Request Manually (Advanced)

This option allows you to create a Shoulder Tap directly from the Make a Difference connection section in Rock.

  • Best for: Staff who are familiar with connections and need more control
  • Requirement: The person must already exist in Rock
  • Benefit: Flexibility to customize and assign connections manually

2. Use the “Shoulder Tap” Action on a Person’s Profile (Recommended)

This is the simplest and most common method when the person is already in Rock.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to the person’s profile in Rock
  2. Click Actions
  3. Select Shoulder Tap
  4. Choose who the connection should be assigned to

Once completed, a Shoulder Tap connection will automatically be created and assigned.

  • Best for: Quick, easy submissions
  • Requirement: The person must already exist in Rock

3. Submit the Shoulder Tap Form (For New People Only)

Use the form when the person is not yet in Rock:
