Parameters
These are the most common parameters that could be added to destination URLs
- utm_source ask: where is my traffic coming from?
- YouTube
- Twitter/X
- QR Code
- Need to Know
- All Actives 18 to 24
- utm_medium ask: how is my traffic coming to me?
- Social
- Billboard
- A-Frame
- Handout
- utm_campaign this is something like the product, slogan, project, promo code
- utm_id this is the Campaign ID. Used to identify a specific campaign or promotion, GA4 Google Analytics requires this for all UTM links, best practice is to make this the same as the utm_campaign
Assigning Values
Each parameter must be paired with a value that you assign. Each parameter-value pair then contains campaign related information
For example, you might use the following parameter-value pairs for an email campaign sent to active students between the ages of 18-24 inviting them to camps
- utm_source = all-actives-18-to-24
- utm_medium = email
- utm_campaign camps-2024
- utm_id camps-2024
If you used these parameters, your custom campaign URL would be: https://cedarcreek.tv/camps?utm_source=all-actives-18-to-24&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=camps-2024&utm_id=camps-2024
To use that same url in a post on Instagram you would just modify the utm_source and utm_medium
- utm_source = instagram
- utm_medium = social
The link to use on social would be: https://cedarcreek.tv/camps?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=camps-2024&utm_id=camps-2024
