If you are visiting this page, you have probably volunteered to help moderate the online chat on YouTube, Thanks! Here’s a tech primer followed by some best practices to abide by:

Tech Primer:

To get started please visit: https://www.youtube.com/

  • Log in to your personal account. Search for CedarCreek Church’s page.

  • Click on the profile. Look for the Live Stream in the home page.

  • Click on the live stream. Make sure the “Live” notification is showing in the bottom to verify the correct stream.

  • All your interactions will be in the comment section. YouTube at the moment only allows 200 characters per comment so you might have to post some notes and verses in 2 parts. When someone posts a prayer request in the comment section please pray for them and be sure to reply saying you did.

Best Practices:

  • What is the goal for your time on the chat?

Goal defined = Cultivate and protect a warm and welcoming space for people to take their next steps in their spiritual journeys through the weekend experience.

****To Moderate on this platform please use your YouTube personal account. We do not have Host Badges like we do on iCampus.

  • What do we do if people troll?

If people troll, please contact an administrator (send email to social@cedarcreek.tv) to have them “banned” from entering the chat.

  • What if someone tries to monopolize conversation?

If someone tries to monopolize conversation, please do your best to acknowledge the person, and then direct conversation back to the service. You may also direct them to a pastor or online groups to chat more freely about the topic that may be unrelated to service.

  • What if someone invites others to join another YouTube channel or spams about another opportunity?

Please gently private message them to please reframe from promoting other groups / opportunities in this chat. If they persist, you may contact an administrator (social@cedarcreek.tv) to ‘ban’ them if they are distracting others from conversation pertaining to service.

  • Should you deal with this publicly or private message them?

See above.

  • Should I keep welcoming people during the message? People are going in and out throughout the whole service?

We encourage you to welcome people upon their first time entering service! We understand people may be popping in and out, so please do your best to remember and notice who has already been greeted.

  • Should I post periodically a welcome message explaining who the chat moderators are?

Do this once at the begging of your shift. After that everyone will know that you’re moderating because you’re posting so much!

  • Should I post links when it’s mentioned by Ben or one of the other live speakers?

Yes, please post links as mentioned by Ben or the other live speakers. These are very helpful for people who didn’t get a chance to write them down! These also drive engagement!
